Representation Matters!

UPDATE: We picked up 83 books from Birch Bark Books, and will be handing them out to children at Little Earth at the Mother’s Day Pow Wow.

You can help get children’s books into the hands of kids who often don’t see themselves represented in literature.

We are Water Protectors recently became the first book by an Indigenous author and illustrator to win a Caldecott Medal, and we want to get this book into the hands of Indigenous kids! While people with resources (mostly white) won’t have any trouble getting this book (and they should most certainly read it, too), kids who see themselves represented in this book are way less likely to have the means to get a copy. So, with the help of some friends at Little Earth of United Tribes here in South Minneapolis we started this project BOTH to support the creators of this book AND get it into the hands of Indigenous kids. You can support this effort by sponsoring one book (or several).

Books will be purchased through Birchbark Books, an Indigenous-owned bookstore here in Minneapolis.

Add as many books as you’d like to sponsor to your cart below, then click “view cart” or the cart image at the top of the page. The payment page will take you through the process to pay using PayPal (you do NOT need a PayPal account).

PLEASE NOTE: PayPal requires a delivery address. You should enter your own address. No books will be delivered to you. You are purchasing a sponsorship. Once a number of books have been sponsored, we will place a bulk order with Birchbark Books. THANK YOU!!

Description

You are on the website of Aurora Daybreak! I am high school senior in south Minneapolis, just down the street from Little Earth of United Tribes. I am currently taking some college classes at the Institute for Production and Recording, and I am creating this website as an assignment for one of my classes. That means that the content will be changing frequently, and there are place holders and demo content on many of the pages. For now, the social media icons on the homepage are all active and will take you to my work on other sites. (TinyTurbines is my drone team, and ShyDragon is my pilot name. You’ll see those, as well as AuroraDaybreak.) If you want to see the finished website, come back at the end of March 2021 when my project is due!
